APRIL 2005 EDITION
VOLUNTEERS SPEARHEAD MIC PACK CAMPAIGN Volunteer Annette Duffy has lead the charge to purchase 10 new microphone packs before The Playhouse produces Disney's Beauty and the Beast this summer. Everyone knows the importance of a working body mic. Those who volunteer at The Playhouse know this fact first-hand. The Playhouse mic packs are old and need to be replaced. The campaign, targeting volunteers for contributions, is looking to raise $6,400. A starting gift of $1,200 from Annette's employer, CDS, got the campaign off to a rousing start, with the Seussical cast answering the challenge. Now Annette is asking the theatre's volunteer corps to take center stage and make this campaign happen. Every gift is appreciated, but if 100 volunteers gave $50 each, the campaign would meet goal. As of early April, half the needed funds had been raised. If you would like more information on the microphone campaign, please contact Rod McCullough, managing director/director of development, at 515-255-3741 ext. 217.

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OFFERS PROPS CLASS When the script calls for a newspaper from Dec. 18, 1842, how does the props person faithfully recreate one that looks authentic? When the director asks for 12 vintage 1960s telephones, where does the props crew begin the scavenger hunt? The Playhouse is putting out the call to adults and teens interested in learning the art of creating and gathering stage props. A new props crew class will meet Saturdays, June 4-25, 9:00 AM-noon, to construct the props needed for our summer musical, Disney's Beauty and the Beast. During these sessions, the crew will build props, exchange ideas and learn the responsibilities of being part of the production team on this key crew. For more information, or to register for this free class, please contact Gail Stelmacher, volunteer coordinator, at 515-255-3741 ext. 210.
