Anyone
who ever wanted to act, from persons with no experience to
the most seasoned actor, is welcome on our stage. Part of
what makes The Playhouse successful is the diversity of our
participants. Beginning with auditions and ending with the
final curtain call, staff and support volunteers are there
to help. Many novices are concerned about learning all the
lines or being nervous on stage. This should not stop anyone!
During the many weeks of rehearsal your role and character
will become second nature.

General information on auditions:
- Auditions for all productions listed are open to the public; no one is precast. Where race, ethnicity, gender, age or other personal differentiations are not demanded by the needs of the script, The Playhouse casts its plays without regard to these attributes.
- Those auditioning are encouraged to come to the theatre at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled audition time to fill in an information sheet. This sheet provides the director(s) with contact information, past experience, special skills and conflicts during the rehearsal process. Auditionees should come with their calendars so they can provide complete information.
- The Playhouse does not typically make audition appointments; auditionees are taken in the order that they turn in their information sheets.
- For musicals, auditionees will need to sing a prepared song. Most directors prefer that it not be from the show for which you are auditioning. The Playhouse provides an accompanist. Auditionees may be requested to work some scales or intervals with the music director to determine the voice range. In groups of 5-10, auditionees will be taught a dance or movement routine. After the dance audition, auditionees will most likely be dismissed. On some occasions, those auditioning will be asked to read a selection from the script. The Playhouse does not ask for prepared monologues.
- For non-musicals, those auditioning will be asked to read a selection from the script. The Playhouse does not ask for prepared monologues.
- Scripts for non-musicals are available at the Playhouse ticket office. Scripts may be checked out for one week. Scripts may not be checked out the week before auditions. It is suggested that auditionees contact the Playhouse ticket office at 515-277-6261 to confirm a script is available before coming in. Ticket office hours are Noon-6:00 PM, Tuesday-Friday.
- Call-backs are usually held on Monday evenings. Not all auditionees will be asked to callbacks. This does not mean a person is not cast, as some parts may be cast from the initial audition.
- Cast lists are typically posted on The Playhouse doors and online by the end of the week. Auditionees should not call The Playhouse to ask if they have been cast.
-
All auditions are at The Playhouse, Sundays at 6 PM., except as otherwise noted.
-
Shows and audition dates are subject to change.
