Director of Advancement
The Des Moines Community Playhouse, under the new executive leadership of David Kilpatrick (Executive Director) and John Viars (Artistic Director) seeks a highly skilled and motivated professional to join our team. The Director of Advancement will play a leadership role in building practices that increase The Playhouse’s fundraising results and capacity, reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Artistic Director the Playhouse’s Board of Directors.
Responsibilities are to implement and oversee a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes, but is not limited to, annual giving, capital campaign, fundraising events, corporate and foundation support, program support, and other activities as required to meet institutional needs.
The Director will develop and execute strategies for the cultivation and stewardship of individual donors at all levels, taking a lead on strategy and implantation for major gifts; participate directly in solicitations with members of Board, fundraising committees and executive staff. The Director will develop annual funding and cultivation plans for foundation, corporate and government donors, identifying new potential candidates for support, and evaluating how best to position prospective funders. This position will also play an integral role in planning benefit events and donor cultivation events.
The Director will manage one part-time development assistant. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3-5 years of direct fundraising experience, excellent writing and interpersonal skills, ability to effectively multi-task, be self-motivated and eager to take initiative and have a passion for The Playhouse’s mission. We are looking for someone who will be professional, collaborative and creative in their approach to fundraising, problem solving and relationship building, and will help foster a positive spirit. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Salesforce or other CRM software valuable. Familiarity with Des Moines community a plus.
