Begun in 2011 and leading to our 100th birthday in 2019, the Playhouse honors Playhouse Legends, whose talent and devotion to our theatre over a long period of time have helped set the high standards of entertainment, professionalism, and quality that our audiences expect today. Legends understand the life-changing power and importance of theatre in our community, because they, themselves, have lived it.

The Des Moines Community Playhouse honors legends Steve Berry, Gina Gedler, Linda Juckette, and Joe Tish on Saturday, July 22. A reception begins at 4:00 PM with a program at 4:30 PM. Tickets may be purchased online at www.dmplayhouse.com.

The four honorees represent 43 years and more than 40 shows at the Playhouse. Beginning in the 1970s and continuing into the present, Berry, Gedler, Juckette, and Tish have had lead roles in such shows as “My Fair Lady,” “Chicago,”  “Evita,” “La Cage aux Folles,” and many others. They have performed at countless Playhouse special events, and served as representatives of the theatre to the community.

This event is an opportunity to honor Playhouse legends whose talent and devotion to our theatre over a long period of time have helped set the high standards of entertainment, professionalism, and quality that our audiences expect today. Past recipients include Dale Berry, Jo Berry, Michael Cornelison, Al Downey, Pearl Faessler, Kathi Fieldsend, Verner Haldene, Jeanne Hopson, Lenny Houts, Henrietta Kagin, Cloris Leachman, Phyllis Love, Jack Mishler, Phyllis Mumford, Toni Pickard, Eddie Rissien, Maxwell Schaeffer, Ruthanne Silverstein, John Thompson, and Lloyd Von Hagen.

The Playhouse is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the U.S. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
