Grade Levels: Enroll your child in the grade level he or she will be entering in Fall 2019. Children are grouped by grade level so we may appropriately serve their developmental needs.

Clubhouse at the Playhouse  

Kindergarten 2019-Grade 1, 9:30-11:30 AM, July 1-3

Based on the popular Friday Funday series, students make their own clubhouse and create a secret handshake and pledge. Open the Magic Book to discover the clues, then act out stories with costumes and props hidden in the secret Clubhouse trunk. There’s a new story every day!

 

 

Playhouse Players : Frankencrayon

Grades 1-2, 1:00-4:00 PM, July 1-3

Using the book Frankencrayon as our script, learn the basics of story dramatization and creative problem-solving while rehearsing your play. Parents can come watch our performance on the last day of class!

 

 

Playhouse Players: The Land of Stories

Grades 3-5, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM, July 1-3

Learn a variety of theatre skills while putting together a short play based on the popular book series The Land of Stories. Parents are invited to the performance on the final day!

 

 

KGCT Audition Workshop+

Grades 4-9, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, July 1-3

Work with Playhouse directors to get the experience necessary to be comfortable and successful in auditions. Participation in the course does not guarantee a role but will acquaint students with scenes from the shows, available roles and the audition procedure used at the Playhouse. This class will focus on the scene work from both plays and musicals in the upcoming Playhouse season.

+Students signed up for both the morning and afternoon audition sessions will have a supervised lunch/break hour.

 

 

Musical Audition Workshop*+

Grades 4-9, 1:00 -4:00 PM, July 1-3

Polish the skills necessary for a successful musical audition, including song selection and learning a dance combination. Participation in the course does not guarantee a role but will acquaint students with songs from the shows, available roles, and the musical audition procedure used at the Playhouse. This class will focus on the singing and dancing components of a musical audition. On the final day, directors visit to offer valuable feedback.

*Please choose, learn, and memorize an appropriate musical theatre audition song prior to the first day of camp.

Dinodrama 

Kindergarten 2019-Grade 1, 9:30-11:30 AM, July 8-12

Travel back to the Jurassic, Triassic, and Cretaceous time periods to tell dinosaur stories and sing dinosaur songs. From Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs to Dinosaurs Love Underpants and everything in between, it will be “dino-mite”!

 

 

Mysteries, Inc.

Grades 2-3, 1:00-4:00 PM, July 8-12

Join Cam Jansen, Nate the Great, and other children’s literary detectives in a week of writing, acting out, and solving mysteries of the Playhouse. Parents are invited to help solve the final mystery on Friday!

 

 

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Grades 4-5, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM, July 8-12

Explore the quirky and terrible tales of three orphans’ continuous bad luck and the pursuit of the deliciously scheming Count Olaf. Rehearse and perform scenes based on and inspired by the tragic books by Lemony Snicket.

 

 

Performance Academy: A Wrinkle in Time

Grades 6-9, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM, July 8-12

Join us for a clever one-act adaptation of one of literature’s most enduring young heroines, Meg Murry. She’s joining forces with Mrs. Whatsit, Charles Wallace, Calvin O’Keefe, and more to battle the forces of evil so she can rescue her father, save humanity, and find herself. Will love overcome evil?                                                          

Performance on Friday at 3:00 PM in the Kate Goldman Children’s Theatre.

 

 

Superhuman Showdown

Grades 2-3, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, July 15-19

What happens when you put Captain Awesome in a story with Professor Poopy Pants? Who will win in a mashup matchup between The Princess in Black and Dr. Doom? See what happens when all of their stories come together. Create your own superheroes and put them together in new stories. Parents are invited for the unveiling of students’ creations on the last day.

 

 

Broadway Stars: Disney’s 101 Dalmatians Kids

Grades 4-5, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM, July 15-19

Based on the classic animated film, Disney’s 101 Dalmatians KIDS is a fur-raising adventure featuring Cruella De Vil, Disney’s most outrageous villain, and 101 of the most adorable heroes to set their paws onstage. Enrollment guarantees a part in the show!

Children’s books are full of stories about nannies who inspire and teach, all with a hint of magic. Or perhaps just a spoonful of sugar? Mary Poppins, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle, and Nanny McPhee will all be there. Will you? We’ll present favorite scenes to parents on the last day!

 

 

The Wild Robot

Grades 4-6, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM, July 22-26

Can a robot survive in the wilderness? When robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time, she discovers she is alone on a deserted island. As she befriends the animals on the island she comes to realize her best hope is to adapt and learn from them. Work on scenes inspired by Roz’s tale of what happens when nature and technology collide. Parents invited the final day for a showcase!

 

 

10 Minute Plays

Grades 7-9, 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM, July 22-26

Performers serious about exploring the art of acting are assigned roles in short plays and monologues to emphasize working in a professional environment. Beginners are challenged with learning lines and blocking. Advanced actors can delve in to the emotional life of the character and gain a finer understanding of how to manipulate stage space. Be ready to give it your all! There will be a presentation of our plays on the final day for family and friends.

 

 

Stagecraft and Stories: The Bad Guys

Grades 1-2, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM, July 29-Aug. 2

The bad guys are scary, dangerous, and well…just bad. But they want to be heroes. Design and create backdrops and props based on Aaron Blabey’s super fun books about bad guys who are ready to do good things. Rehearse scenes from the books then invite family and friends to the showcase on Friday afternoon!

 

 

Stagecraft and Stories: The Chocolate Touch

Grades 3-4, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM, July 29-Aug. 2

John Midas loves chocolate. One day, after wandering into a candy store, he finds out that there might just be such a thing as too much chocolate. Design and paint backdrops and props inspired by the story. Rehearse scenes from the books then invite family and friends to the showcase on Friday afternoon!
