We have a vision for the next 100 years: renovate our building to create a world-class space for our guests, volunteers and students.

Act One was a successful effort that addressed immediate building deficiencies and programming needs, but our goal of creating a theatre for the 21st century is far from complete. Act Two will strengthen the Playhouse’s impact in central Iowa by upgrading our facility for the safety and enjoyment of everyone in the community.

Act Two is driven by three main priorities: accessibility, safety and up-to-date theatre standards. With that as our guide, the following renovations will take place in Summer 2018

  • ADA and safety improvements including stage access
  • Renovate auditorium with new seats, ceiling and carpet
  • Add catwalks & update the proscenium
  • Update lighting, sound & rigging equipment
  • Renovate all restrooms & concessions
  • Secure Mainstage stairwell
  • Renovate green room
  • Update lower level classroom
  • New fire alarm system & sprinkler system
  • New electrical service & boiler

On Dec. 13, 2017, the Playhouse was awarded $440,000 from the State of Iowa’s CAT Grant. Playhouse executive director David Kilpatrick said, “This is the first hurdle. We raised the money to give ourselves a new home, safe and accessible. We still have a short distance to go in order to get the drapes, curtains, and furniture in our new home. Or as you will hear in the future, the primary target for Act 2 was hit. Now we need just a little extra for the Razzle Dazzle (lights, curtains and other plug and play items!).”

We can’t do it without you. Help us create an accessible, safe space for generations to come. For more information or to support Act Two, contact Chris Andersen, director of philanthropy, at (515) 974-5370.
