PERFORMANCE ACADEMY CABARET
Grades 7-12, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM, July 9-21
$430 Subscribers/$450 Non-subscribers

Auditions: Friday, June 29 from 1:00-4:00 PM
July 9-13 class meets at West Des Moines Christian Church
July 16-21 class meets at Staplin Performing Arts Center, Valley High School
Performances: 1:00 PM & 4:00 PM, July 21, at Staplin Performing Arts Center, Valley High School, 3650 Woodland Ave

Our gut says that it would be better to support the growth of every student enrolled in the Performance Academy by structuring this year’s performance around the idea of building a “triple threat” student – working the skills of each student in singing, dancing, and acting – with a final cabaret that features a blend of solo/small group and ensemble vocal and dance numbers as well as monologues or scene cuttings. The product would equip students to be more prepared for auditioning in the community and home schools, look ahead to collegiate theatre work (for those dreaming of that), and provide unique, individualized training.

PERFORMANCE ACADEMY: THE SECRET LIVES OF TOADS

$240 Subscribers/$250 Non-subscribers

Auditions: 4:15-6:15 PM, Friday, July 13
Performance: 3:00 PM, Friday, July 27
In Performance Academy, actors are taken through a more formal process. Audition, rehearse, and perform a play to learn how to polish skills in a dynamic, challenging environment. This one-act play centers on Harvey as he faces his first day at a brand new middle school. The cool kids have staked out their territory and there’s no room in their crowd for nerds or dweebs. Realistically written to reflect multiple challenges kids face at school, this comedy gets serious when the kids find themselves thrown together on the wrong side of a locked door. Enrollment guarantees a role, but all students must attend auditions at 4:15 PM, Friday, July 13.
